Bid Express Now Implemented in 20 States

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – August 15, 2005: Bid Express, the online bidding service for state transportation agencies and their contractors, has now been implemented in 20 US states.

New Jersey Department of Transportation began using the service with their August bid letting. They have joined Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and Wisconsin. These states are all experiencing the increase in accuracy and efficiency that comes from Internet bidding. Two additional states, Kansas and Louisiana, are in the final stages of implementing.

"The rate at which state highway agencies are implementing Bid Express proves that they were experiencing a need for increased accuracy and efficiency in bidding," said Joe Phelan, director of sales and marketing for Bid X.com. "Plus, the contractors, especially those who bid in multiple states, are sharing their experiences with other contractors and literally demanding that the agencies accept Internet bids."

Bid Express is a web-based bidding information service developed exclusively for the road construction industry. By using Bid Express, contractors can save time needed for preparing and submitting bids and bid bonds on paper, and travel time and expense in attending lettings. Simple screens allow contractors to quickly scan all current lettings, and a search function is available for keyword information on current lettings and bid tab data from previous lettings. Users have access to lettings from all state transportation agencies using Bid Express -- not just those of their home state. Agencies benefit by not needing additional staff at lettings and by generating and tracking less paper. They also get electronic bids that are more accurate and ready to load. States typically participate in a pilot program for several months to introduce the service to their bidding community before officially accepting Internet bids.

Contractors pay a minimal monthly subscription fee for the basic service, and can elect additional add-on, bidding-related services, including access to electronic plan sheets and a bid tabs analysis service.
