GAINESVILLE, Fla. – July 19, 2004: A new service is being offered through Bid Express that provides highway construction contractors a powerful tool for developing competitive bids. The Bid Express Bid Tab Analysis service allows contractors to do enhanced statistical analysis of bid information based on historical bid tabulations stored on Bid Express for state transportation agencies. This feature assists contractors in determining item prices and building bids.
Historical bid information has always been available to subscribers via the Bid Express search function. However this new feature, which can be added to the basic Bid Express service for an additional fee, provides enhanced search and comparative functions for analyzing low bids, computing average bid prices, and comparing pricing by contractor, proposal, or items. Contractors requested this feature to save them time in determining prices and to help them produce more accurate bids. The flexibility of the data provided via Bid Tab Analysis makes it easy to perform all types of analyses quickly and easily.
This new service expands the value of Bid Express by placing more functions at the contractor’s fingertips. Rather than subscribing to the services of multiple vendors, now contractors only need to subscribe to Bid Express and add on the Bid Tab Analysis service.
“The new bid tabs feature is just another example of how Bid Express is responding to the needs of contractors,” said Joe Phelan, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Bid Express. “With each new feature added, Bid Express becomes a better tool for contractors and the agencies with which they do business.”

Bid Express is a web-based bidding information service developed exclusively for the highway construction industry. By using Bid Express, contractors can save time needed for preparing and submitting bids and bid bonds on paper, and travel time and expense in attending lettings. Simple screens allow contractors to quickly scan all current lettings, and a search function is available for keyword information on current lettings and bid tab data from previous lettings. Users have access to lettings from all state transportation agencies using Bid Express -- not just those of their home state.
Bid Express is already in production use in 13 state departments of transportation, with 12 additional states in various stages of implementation and testing. States typically participate in a pilot program for several months to introduce the service to their bidding community before officially accepting Internet bids.
