Record-Setting State Agency Bid Letting for Bid Express

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – March 8, 2006: Bid Express, the online bidding service for state transportation agencies and their contractors, handled its largest letting ever with the March 3rd bid letting at Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

At the bid opening, MDOT opened 135 proposals and received 661 bids from 180 unique bidders. All of the bids came through Bid Express, since MDOT has mandated use of the service by its bidders. The previous record for number of bids received by Bid Express in one letting was 416, thus the new total was more than a 50% increase. The 661 bids totaled just slightly under $1.4 billion.

“Results like these prove that the technology behind Bid Express can handle any size letting and that contractors are comfortable with and confident in the service,” said Joe Phelan, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Bid Express.

Bid Express is a web-based bidding information service developed exclusively for the road construction industry. By using Bid Express, contractors can save time needed for preparing and submitting bids and bid bonds on paper, and travel time and expense in attending lettings. Simple screens allow contractors to quickly scan all current lettings, and a search function is available for keyword information on current lettings and bid tab data from previous lettings. Users have access to lettings from all state transportation agencies using Bid Express -- not just those of their home state. Agencies benefit by not needing additional staff at lettings and by generating and tracking less paper. They also get electronic bids that are error free and ready to load into their award processing system.

Contractors pay a minimal monthly subscription fee for the service, and can elect additional bidding-related services, including access to electronic plan sheets and a bid tabs analysis service.

Bid Express is offered by Info Tech, Inc. Info Tech software is installed in 40 state departments of transportation, several hundred US cities and counties and two foreign countries, performing a wide range of functions from project estimation to contract administration to electronic bidding.
